    The Blair County Community Action Agency has an Employment and Training Services Program that provides job readiness workshops, referrals to other agencies, job placement services, and job counseling and follow-up. Participants receive individual orientation, screening, testing, and assessment, are screened and assessed to match market demands, and given referrals to area employers. The Blair County Community Action Agency also provides weatherization and utility assistance. Assistance with obtaining housing is available to individuals who are homeless (please note that a referral is required for housing assistance; an outside agency must verify that the individual is homeless).

    The Society of St. Vincent de Paul Altoona-Johnstown Diocese operates Food For Families consisting of two food banks and two Family Kitchens, as well as five food pantries. The Society runs eight thrift stores filled with used, new, or vintage items, all the proceeds go towards those in need. Although the items are priced in order to meet anyone's pocket book, the Society will make every effort to help those in need with items. Please call or go online to see the various sites throughout the county. To address larger needs, a Home Visitor will go to the home of a needy person make an assessment and authorize assistance to supply furniture, appliances or other large household items. The Society assists with other financial needs such as, rent, utilities, medical expenses, and many other basic needs. There are always volunteer opportunities to staff the thrift stores or community gardens that the Society runs to assist those in need with clothing, household items, and fresh produce.     PA Law Project

    The PA Health Law Project works to ensure everyone has access to health care. Outside of advocating for the right to health care, the Law Project provides free legal services to any low-income resident of Pennsylvania having difficulty accessing publicly funded health care, whose health care has been terminated or reduced, or who have been denied Medicare (or similar health care programming). Additionally, the Law Project helps eligible residents apply for Medicare, responds to issues of denial of service (i.e. for prescriptions), and anyone struggling with their health care costs. The only requirement is income related, otherwise, the program is nondiscriminatory - there is a helpline which can be utilized for base information by anyone, regardless of income.
